Advice for the Young at Heart

Advice for the Young at Heart” is a song from the 1989 album The Seeds of Love by the British band Tears for Fears. The single was a Top 40 hit in the Netherlands (#22), France (#31), UK (#36), and a Top 20 hit in Ireland (#15). Roland Orzabal and keyboardist/singer Nicky Holland wrote the song. Curt Smith sung the lead vocals (it was the only track he sang on the whole The Seeds of Love album). The lyric “Love is a promise, love is a souvenir once given, never forgotten, never let it disappear” is a quote by John Lennon.

The songs video was filmed in Florida. It features a Latin-American wedding interspersed with shots of the band performing. It was the last Tears for Fears video to feature both Smith and Orzabal before their bitter split in the early 1990s. It took 15 years before they made another video together (“Closest Thing to Heaven” in 2005).
